Positively 6th Street, the Fifth Annual 6th Street Fair
Saturday, June 10, 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Minna St (½ block south of Mission Street) between 5th and 6th Sts
Positively 6th Street is one of the few events where the community truly joins together. The day is full of soul, flavor, rhythm, and smiles. The fair planning committee hopes to see you enjoying 6th Street’s verve this year on Saturday, June 10, 2006 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. We invite you to visit our newly created web site at www.6thstreetfair.org. Please check back later in the week, as we are in the process of expanding the site.
In light of the 100th anniversary of the 1906 Earthquake, the theme of this year’s fair is emergency preparedness. The San Francisco Neighborhood Emergency Response Team, the Office of Emergency Services, the International Association of Fire Fighters, and the San Francisco Fire Department will have youth and adult-oriented booths dedicated to safety.
The main stage on Minna and 6th Streets will feature Bobbie Webb and His Smooth Blues Band, the Band of Brothers, and other world music, with a heavy Motown and Rhythm and Blues influence. Talented local youth groups such as the Freeplay Dance Troop and the Usual Suspects will perform Hip Hop dance, spoken word, rap, and theater on the street performance stage mid-block between 6th and Mary Streets on Minna Alley. Local rock n’roll bands such as Tsubibo, a Tagalog word meaning ferris wheel, will rock the third stage on the corner of Minna and Mary. In addition, Loco Bloco, the three time Carnaval winning Afro-Brazilian youth percussion ensemble, will parade through the fair mid-day, and the Sun and Moon Ensemble dressed in giant-sized sun and moon costumes will dazzle the crowd. Youth can enjoy a temporary tattoo and button making booth, sno-cones, cotton candy, face painting, and a bounce house. Seniors can play Chess or Bridge under shaded tents.
