I just got home from the special showing of “United 93” which showed at the AMC 1000, Wednesday April 26, 2006. I had received the free tickets from Supervisor Chris Daly and decided to go. So I took my friend and we headed out to the premiere. The movie started out with the terrorist praying to Allah. We then are taken through scenes where we meet the passengers of United flight 93 and the air traffic controllers.
I must say that I was riveted to every moment of the movie. Even before the plane is in the air, reports start to come in that other airplanes have been high-jacked. The next few scenes show the high-jacker impatiently awaiting their opportunity to take control of the airplane. Of course we know that the first plane struck the tower and after that the next tower and then the pentagon. The high-jackers then take the opportunity and take the plane with sharpened plastic knives and a fake bomb.
The passengers on United 93 call on air-phones and cell phones and tell their loved ones of what is transpiring on their flight. They receive information regarding the World Trade Towers and piece together that they would not make it out of their predicament alive. The only way to possibly save themselves is to attack the high-jackers. I want to say that we all know what happens and that the bravery enacted by the passengers was inspiring. We know the outcome of the flight and that in each scene with the towers and in the plane sent shivers throughout my entire body.
During the movie I wasn't concerned about the production value or the acting because the story itself was so revetting. To relive history in this manner entire audience enthralled. I know that invitations were sent to families and friends of passengers on the flight and that they gave their approval of the film. Once again, I thought the movie was spectacular and would encourage anyone to see it.
