AIDS Health Care Foundation/Out of the Closet Grand Opening
Today saw the “Grand Opening” of another "Out of the Closet" store, here in our lovely overcast City of San Francisco. The new store located at 9th and Folsom, in SoMa had a band, balloons and a throng of eager shoppers awaiting the opening of the store. Out of the Closet takes donations of clothing, house-hold items, furniture and other items, and sales them to the public at reduced prices. 95% of every dollar goes to benefit those with HIV/AIDS throughout the country.
Michael Weinstein, President of the AIDS Health Care Foundation, along with Lori Yeghiayan, greeted me, the Underground Concierge in my other capacity as a representative of Supervisor Chris Daly's Office to the Grand Opening. I met with John Nieto, Manager of the Folsom store and spoke regarding the other sites here in San Francisco. The Grand Opening had a “generous” donation from the HBO television program “Six Feet Under”. There were a throng of shoppers awaiting the opening. The prices were absolutely ridiculous, leather jackets at $10, barber shop chairs $25 a piece and plenty of other great buys
Another great surprise was the arrival of State Assemblyman Mark Leno. Assemblyman Leno gave a wonderful speech and the ribbon cutting commenced. Everyone rushed inside ,to take advantage of the sale and to meet with San Francisco's own Mark Leno. I have some pictures here for you and hope you will take a trip down to “Out Of the Closet”, located 1295 Folsom St., San Francisco, CA 94103.
